The next morning, I woke up alone. Something smelled good, though, and not just because I had enhanced senses now. It smelled like food, like delicious, delicious food. I heard Bran come up the stairs and blinked sleepily at him as he entered the room with a tray.

”Good morning,” he said cheerfully. My eyes fixed on the tray he was carrying. He had scrambled eggs and bacon and coffee and strawberry cake for dessert. Oh God, I had the best boyfriend ever. ”I figured you'd be hungry.”

“Come here so I can eat you.” Oops, I’d meant to say kiss you, but Bran laughed, and I guess it didn’t matter. He put the tray down on the bed, and I spared a second to kiss him before I dove into the food. I thanked my lucky stars that he hadn’t burned anything this time. When had he done all this though? I eyed him as I wolfed down the bacon. He looked like he’d been up for a while. I glanced at the piece of cake. That should have taken a few hours to make. It looked good though. I wouldn’t have to force myself to eat it again.

“Did you make this?” I asked, scooping cake onto my fork.

“Yesterday after you zonked out.”

“You didn’t have to.”

“I know.”

He smiled. I smiled back, and still ravenous, put the cake into my mouth. I hardly chewed before swallowing. I should have. Something got stuck in my throat. I tried to cough. Fuck! I couldn’t breathe! What was that?

“Ah shit!” Bran looked a tad panicked as he moved behind me, put his arms around me, and brought his fists down beneath my chest to dislodge whatever was stuck in my throat. It came flying out. Coughing, I tried to see what it was.

“Sorry!” Bran said. “That wasn’t supposed to happen!”

“What—” Words failed me as I glimpsed the shiny ring that lay before me on the bed sheets. “Bran… Are you… Is that…?”

Had he taken a freaking baking course to propose to me? I took a breath. Took another one, still staring at the ring. Only Bran would have thought it was a good idea to put that into something I was eating, but… holy shit, that was an engagement ring.

Bran took the small thing in his hand, got up from the bed and dropped to one knee on the floor before me.

“Yes,” I said before he could even start. Whatever he had to say, I already knew. He shot me a questioning look, and I could see the smile begin to form on his lips. “Yes, I’ll marry you.” It was the logical thing to do, really. I didn’t need anyone else in my life, and he’d made it clear that he didn’t either. “Please get off the floor.”

He climbed back onto the bed, a huge grin on his face. He was about to kiss me when I stopped him, holding my hand up. “What?” he asked.

“Just promise me one thing.”

He raised his eyebrows.

“Stop watching your mom’s romance movies.
